Petar Jovanovic Named Academic All-American
June 04, 2025 | Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Petar Jovanovic named a 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American. Jovanovic is the first Mississippi State men's tennis player since 2019 to earn CSC (formally CoSIDA) Academic All-America honors.
Â
Jovanovic continues to add to his impressive list of academic honors for the 2024-25 season. In his junior year, he was named an Academic All-American, earned the NCAA Elite 90 Award, and was named the SEC Scholar-Athlete. ITA & SEC Academic honors will be released at a later date.
Â
To be named an Academic All-American, each student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 GPA and meet high athletic standards. Following the Academic All-District recognition, a select group of students advance to a national ballot for a chance to be a part of the seven-member All-America team. Of those seven honorees, one is chosen as the Academic All-American of the Year.
Â
The junior from Montenegro has had a stellar season both on and off the court. In the classroom, Jovanovic has a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in finance.
Â
This past spring, he won 18 singles dual matches and 22 doubles dual matches. His 40 combined dual-match wins are second in program history for a single season. Jovanovic has also won 33 doubles matches between the fall and spring this season, tying for the third-most in a single season at Mississippi State.
Â
He concluded the season ranked No. 2 in the nation in doubles with teammate Benito Sanchez Martinez. As a pair, they combined to win 17 straight doubles matches to close out the season, with only four matches during that stretch going unfinished. The duo has won 58 career doubles matches together, the most in program history. 33 of those 58 wins came during the 2024-25 season, also a single-season program record.
