Petar Jovanovic Named NCAA Elite 90 Winner
May 14, 2025 | Men's Tennis
WACO, Texas – Mississippi State's Petar Jovanovic was named the 2025 NCAA Men's Tennis Elite 90 winner at this year's NCAA Tennis Championship. Jovanovic is the second men's tennis player in program history and the third Mississippi State student-athlete to win the prestigious award.
Â
The NCAA ELITE 90 award honors the exceptional achievements of student-athletes. This prestigious accolade is given to those who have excelled at a national championship level in their sport and achieved the highest academic standards among their peers. The Elite 90 is proudly awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 90 championships.
Â
Jovanovic joins an elite group of Mississippi State Bulldogs to win the Elite 90 Award as he joins Rishab Agarwal (2016) and Jordan Danberry (2018) as Elite 90 winners from Mississippi State.
Â
The junior from Montenegro has had a stellar season both on and off the court. In the classroom, Jovanovic has a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in finance. He was named the 2025 SEC Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year winner while also being named to the CSC Academic All-District team.
Â
This spring, he has won 17 singles dual matches and 21 doubles dual matches. His 38 combined dual match wins this season are tied for third in program history for a single season with Alex Zalesky (1979) and George Coupland (2012). Jovanovic has also won 32 doubles matches between the fall and spring this season, tied for the fourth-most in a single season at State.
Â
He is ranked No. 1 in the nation in doubles with teammate Benito Sanchez Martinez. As a pair, they have combined to win 16 straight doubles matches since Feb. 2, with only four matches during that stretch going unfinished. The duo has won 57 career doubles matches together, tied for the most in program history. 32 of those 57 wins have come this season, also tied for the most in program history for a single season.
Â
Jovanovic and Mississippi State will be in action on Friday, May 16, when the Bulldogs take on No. 4 Stanford in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. CT.
