No. 12 MSU Collects Senior Day Victory

STARKVILLE – The 12th-ranked Mississippi State men's tennis team picked up a senior day triumph and finished the regular season undefeated in SEC home contests after defeating No. 29 Auburn 5-2 on Sunday.

State continued their dominance in doubles play on Sunday and remained perfect in SEC doubles action, following wins from senior Dusan Milanovic and Michal Novansky and No. 2 Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez. Milanovic and Novansky cruised to a 6-2 win, and Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez clinched the doubles point for MSU.

To begin singles play, No. 50 Sanchez Martinez dominated Auburn's Will Nolan picking up a 6-1, 6-0 win. Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes extended the Bulldog lead to 3-0 after winning his singles match. Bryan Hernandez Cortes would go on to clinch the match for MSU. It was his first collegiate singles clinch. After lightning was detected in the area, State moved indoors to the Rula Tennis Pavilion where No. 67 Jovanovic picked up a ranked victory over No. 57 Alex Frusina to push the lead to 5-0. The victory moved MSU to 17-1 at home and 9-3 in the SEC.

Match Notes

Mississippi State finishes the regular season 17-1 at home, which is the most home wins in the SEC.
The Bulldogs also finish undefeated in SEC play when they are in Starkville with a 7-0 record.
State is on a five-match win streak, and they have all come against top 40 SEC teams.
Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez improve to 10-0 in SEC doubles play with eight of those wins occurring against ranked opponents inside the top 40.
The duo also have 13 ranked wins on the year which is the most by a pair in the SEC and are currently riding a 10-match doubles win streak.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez now have 51 career doubles wins together which gives them sole-possession of second-most all time at MSU.
Petar Jovanovic picked up his 5th singles win and 15th career singles win over a ranked opponent.
Bryan Hernandez Cortes picked up his second-straight singles win, third SEC singless win and his first singles clinch of his career.
Sanchez Martinez extends his win streak to eight and improved his SEC record to 10-2 after his singles win.
Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes improves his singles dual match record to 16-4 and 7-3 in SEC play.

Mississippi State will close out its regular season with two road matches. The Bulldogs will travel to Oxford and face No. 53 Ole Miss on Friday at 5 p.m. and travel to Tuscaloosa on Sunday to take on No. 36 Alabama at 1 p.m.
