April 24, 2025 | Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State men's tennis standouts Niccolo Baroni, Petar Jovanovic and Benito Sanchez Martinez have been named to All-SEC teams, the league office announced Thursday.
Jovanovic and Sanchez Martinez, the nation's top-ranked doubles pair, earned First Team All-SEC honors after an outstanding season. The duo compiled a 29-4 overall record, including a perfect 12-0 mark in SEC play. Their dominance placed them second all-time in doubles victories at MSU with 54 wins, just four shy of the school record. They also led the team in doubles clinches with 11.
Sanchez Martinez also impressed in singles play, recording a 25-5 overall record and a 12-2 SEC record. The Potsdam, Germany, native achieved career-high rankings of No. 29 in singles and No. 1 in doubles, while posting career-best win streaks of 11 in singles and 13 in doubles. He led the team in ranked wins, with 12 in singles and 16 in doubles, and was named SEC Player of the Week twice. He tied for the team lead in singles clinches (five) and held the team-high in doubles clinches (12).
Jovanovic provided consistency in singles, competing primarily at No. 2 and finishing with a 23-10 overall record, including 9-5 in conference play. He notched a seven-match singles win streak and shared the team's longest doubles win streak (13). His seven ranked singles victories were second-most on the team. Jovanovic was also named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earned SEC Player of the Week honors.
Freshman Niccolo Baroni garnered both Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team honors in his debut season. The Viareggio, Italy, native made an immediate impact at No. 3 singles, posting a 21-6 overall record and 8-3 mark in SEC play. He opened the dual match season with a nine-match win streak that spanned from Jan. 12 to Feb. 24. In doubles, Baroni and partner Martinez Serrano recorded 10 clinches, second-most on the team.
