Wesolowski Earns First Career Weekly Honor
April 15, 2025 | Softball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State's Ella Wesolowski was named SEC Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. It is Wesolowski's first career weekly award of any kind, and she is the first Bulldog to earn the league's Player of the Week recognition since 2023.
Â
Wesolowski helped lead the Bulldogs to a series win over Missouri this past weekend with a remarkably consistent performance at the plate and a dominant defensive showing behind it.
Â
The Williamsville, New York, native batted .750 (6-for-8) in the series with three doubles, four RBIs, and a 1.125 slugging percentage. Her batting average ranked 10th nationally and led the SEC for the week. She posted an 1.875 OPS.
Â
The sophomore catcher recorded a career-high four hits in Saturday's matchup, going 4-for-4 with a career-high two doubles and two RBIs. It marked her second multi-hit game of the season. She also caught a runner stealing and picked off another, tallying her second pickoff of the season. That play gave Mississippi State its seventh team pickoff of the year, setting a new single-season program record. Wesolowski raised her batting average by 90 points in Saturday's contest alone.
Â
She carried that momentum into Sunday's series finale, going 2-for-3 with another double and her third multi-RBI game of the year. She added her third pickoff of the season, further solidifying her presence as one of the conference's top defensive catchers.
Â
Wesolowski now ranks second in the SEC and third among all Power Four catchers nationally with three pickoffs. She trails only her teammate Jessie Blaine (5) in the conference. The Bulldogs lead all Power Four teams with eight pickoffs this year, double that of the next-closest squad.
Â
The No. 16/15 Bulldogs (33-11, 9-6 SEC) will travel to No. 2/4 Oklahoma this weekend for a three-game set. The series opener will be played at Devon Park, the home of the Women's College World Series, on Friday night.
