Get To Know: Lauren Maxson
April 10, 2025 | Soccer
STARKVILLE – Kicking a soccer ball has been something Lauren Maxson has done since the age of three. She grew up commanding the midfield but made the switch to defender in high school.
Â
Moving from Pennsylvania to Mississippi for college is not the easiest jump, but Maxson admits the people in Starkville have made it easy. As a self-proclaimed people person, Maxson likes that the people of Starkville are willing to have a friendly conversation at any time.
Â
"The people are a lot friendlier in the South. I love that people will just come up to you in stores and have a friendly conversation," she said. "That would never happen back home."
Â
Another upside to moving down South has been the weather. Maxson preferred the warm Mississippi weather over the Pennsylvania cold.
Â
In her short time in Starkville, Maxson has already felt the backing of the community and fans.
Â
"Starkville is a very close-knit community," she said. "Everyone shows out and supports all of the teams on campus, and it's just really cool to see."
Â
Coming into a new environment, especially as a freshman can be daunting but Maxson says that the team has made it extremely easy for her.
Â
"The girls are all so nice and the coaches were super welcoming, so it was an easy transition," she said.
Â
Maxson remains focused on taking on each obstacle that she is faced with head on. She understands that this season the team has an opportunity to continue the upward trajectory of the program set by those that came before her.
Â
"I'm looking forward to seeing everyone continue to build upon last year's success and watch the program succeed even more," she said.
