April 01, 2025 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE -Â Former Mississippi State men's golfer Hunter Logan qualified for the PGA Tour's Valero Texas Open on Monday, firing a bogey-free round of 5-under 67 at the Fair Oaks Ranch and Country Club Blackjack Course in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas.
Â
The State golf great carded three birdies on the front nine to go in at 33 – tied for the best front-nine score in the field – and finished his round with a 34 on the back nine.Â
Â
The former Bulldog made his PGA Tour debut in October at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. Earlier this year, he competed on the Korn Ferry Tour at the Argentina Open.
Â
Logan led the Bulldogs with a 71.06 stroke average last year in his final season. That average ranked third in program history, and he posted a career-high-tying 21 par or better rounds. He finished his career with 74 par or better rounds and 33 rounds in the 60s, both of which are second in program history. His 15 rounds in the 60s in 2023-24 came one shy of the program's single-season record set by Alex Rocha in 1999-00.
Â
The Steens, Mississippi, native was tabbed a PING All-Region performer by the Golf Coaches Association of America in May 2024. He collected three top-five finishes in 2023-24, including his first career individual victory. At one point, he ranked as high as No. 35 in the PGA Tour University rankings.
Â
The Valero Texas Open will begin on Thursday. The event will be played on April 3- 6 at TPC San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. First played in 1922, it is the third-oldest event on the PGA Tour and will be televised on Golf Channel all four days. NBC will pick up afternoon coverage for the final two rounds.
