Six Tickets Punched To Indoor Nationals
March 05, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field will send six athletes to compete at the NCAA Indoor National Championships next weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Two qualification spots came as no shock to the Bulldogs with Peyton Bair and Abdullahi Hassan earning their places at the indoor championships. Athletes earn berths to the national championship by being in the top 16 nationally in individual events, or top 12 in relays. Peyton Bair holds the collegiate lead in the heptathlon with 6,104 points, punching his ticket earlier this season at the Charlie Thomas Invitational. This will be Bair's first appearance at the indoor championship, on the heels of a runner-up finish at the outdoor championships. Hassan held the collegiate lead early in the season in the 800m and has remained in the top three collegiately through the season. This will be Hassan's fifth consecutive appearance at the indoor championship, earning four All-American honors while competing for Wisconsin.
The next athlete to qualify is freshman sprinter Nicholas Fakorede. Fakorede has been a staple for the sprints team this season, running the second fastest time in program history earlier this season, and continuously improving on his times as the year went on. Finishing fourth at the conference championship, Fakorede ran 6.56 for a new personal best and the No. 13 spot on the national list, qualifying him for the national championship. He will be the first Bulldog sprinter to appear at the indoor championship since D'Angelo Cherry in 2013, who holds the program record in the event.
The men's 4x400m booked the final ticket for the men, qualifying for the championship in the No. 11 spot. The squad consisting of Christion Barker, Cyrus Jacobs Jr., Alfonso Hale Jr. and Bair, ran 3:05.07 at the Tiger Paw Invitational a few weeks back. The squad ran the second fastest time in program history, and was strong enough to stay in the top twelve nationally to extend their indoor season to the NCAA Indoor Championship. Sherman Hawkins will travel with the squad as an alternate.
The meet will be held on March 14-15, at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, VA.
