Johnson Earns NWSL Roster Spot
March 05, 2025 | Soccer
STARKVILLE – Hannah Johnson is now the fourth member of Mississippi State's 2024 SEC Championship team to sign a professional contract. The midfielder from Middleburg, Florida, signed with Angel City FC where she had been a non-roster invitee to preseason camp.
Â
"I'm thrilled to be joining the club," Johnson said. "This is the best environment I've ever trained in. I couldn't imagine a better group of players to compete with and learn from every day. Being in Coachella Valley and seeing the fans' insane support has also been amazing to see. I've worked really hard for this opportunity and its' all paying off, so I'm excited to keep learning."Â
Â
Johnson had a career year this season, leading the Bulldogs with nine assists, which ranked third in the SEC and in the top 30 nationally. She recorded a career-best 15 points and scored three times. She had a goal and an assist in the same game twice this fall and assisted on the game-winning goals against both Missouri and Tennessee. Â
Â
"Words can't describe how happy and excited I am for Hannah," MSU head coach Nick Zimmerman said. "She has worked extremely hard to earn this moment, and there is not a better feeling for a coach that to see it all pay off."
Â
Johnson played 1,723 minutes in 21 games of her senior season and 4,924 total minutes over 81 matches as a Bulldog. She scored seven goals in her college career and was selected to the 2024 SEC All-Tournament Team.
Â
Johnson joins Macey Hodge, her teammate from the past four years, on Angel City's roster. Along with that duo, Rylie Combs and Aitana Martinez-Montoya signed professional contracts following the 2024 season as well. Combs is playing for Eskilstuna United in Sweden, and Martinez-Montoya signed with Racing Power FC in her native Portugal.
