Hassan Named To All-SEC Indoor Second Team
March 04, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State middle distance runner Abdullahi Hassan was named to the All-SEC second team after his showing at the conference championship last weekend.
Hassan claimed the first SEC honor of his career after he took home silver in the 800m at the SEC Indoor Championships, running 1:47.95. His finish marks the second consecutive silver medal for the Bulldogs in the event, with alumni Tyrese Reid earning second at the 2024 indoor conference championships.
In his first season with the Bulldogs, Hassan has surpassed the program record in the 800m, formerly held by Olympic Silver Medalist Marco Arop, and broke the longest standing program record in the mile. He has also run the eighth fastest time in collegiate history earlier this season. Hassan currently sits at No. 3 in the collegiate rankings and will compete in the
NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Hassan adds himself to an elite group of middle distance runners that have come through Mississippi State. Most notably, World Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist Marco Arop, and Olympians Brandon McBride and Navasky Anderson all found success at MSU training under head coach Chris Woods. With the outdoor season looming nearby, Hassan is primed to make noise both in the conference and nationally.
