Fakorede Earns Second SEC Weekly Honor
March 25, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field athlete Nicholas Fakorede was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, as announced this afternoon.
"Nicholas carried the energy from the indoor season to outdoors successfully, making sure to start the season on a high note," said head coach Chris Woods. "He is one of the best sprinters in one of the best programs in the country, and he is ready to take the outdoor season head on."
Following an eighth-place finish in the 60m at the NCAA Indoor Championships, Fakorede opened his outdoor campaign last weekend at the Alumni Bulldog Relays. Competing in only two events, the 100m and the 4x100m relay, Fakorede was slated to have a solid opening weekend.
Finishing first in his first collegiate 100m race, Fakorede ran 10.11 for a new lifetime best. His time sits second on the NCAA performance list and leads the conference by 0.17 seconds. He also helped the 4x100m squad to a first-place finish with a time of 39.32 seconds. The relay leads the conference and sits fourth nationally.
This is Fakorede's second SEC weekly honor, as he was named Freshman of the Week during the indoor season. He is set to compete this upcoming weekend in the first travel meet of the season, the Battle of the Bayou, hosted by LSU.
