The Final Horn: Baylor 75, State 72
March 21, 2025 | Men's Basketball
A quick rundown of the action as MSU falls to the Bears in the NCAA Tournament.
THE BOTTOM LINE: Josh Hubbard added yet another standout performance to his Mississippi State career, but it was ultimately not enough for the Bulldogs as MSU saw its season conclude with a 75-72 loss to Baylor on Friday in the NCAA Tournament. Hubbard racked up 26 points to lead all scorers, however Baylor took advantage of turnovers and success on the offensive glass to put an early end to MSU's postseason.
KEY NUMBERS: Baylor's 15 offensive rebounds provided the Bears with multiple opportunities for second-chance points. That, plus State's 14 turnovers, gave Baylor extra opportunities and baskets that were critical in the Bear triumph. Still, MSU shot 50 percent as a team and hit 10 3-pointers to keep pace and gave itself a chance. There were contributions across the board for the Bulldogs. In addition to Hubbard, Claudell Harris Jr., Riley Kugel and KeShawn Murphy also scored in double figures for State. Harris had 13 points. Kugel totaled 11 and Murphy added 10.
NEXT UP FOR THE DAWGS: Mississippi State heads into the offseason following what was its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
