
Bulldogs Take Down No. 18 Auburn, Fall To No. 6 Florida State

AIKEN, S.C.. – The Mississippi State Bulldogs split a pair of matchups in the opening day of the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play, taking down the 18th-ranked Auburn Tigers and falling to the sixth-ranked Florida State Seminoles.
The Dawgs started their day slow, as they dropped the opening match to the Seminoles, 0-5. However, the team was able to regroup for the second half of the day and take down the Auburn Tigers 3-2.
Izzy Pellot gained the first victory of the second match for the Bulldogs. Down one with five holes remaining, she was able to tie the match on hole five and earned the 1UP victory on the final hole of the day.
Chiara Horder earned the second point for State. Like Pellot, she finished her match 1UP. Horder gained a one-hole lead on hole four and wouldn't relinquish the lead down the stretch.
Samantha Whateley secured the final point for the Bulldogs. Her match was tightly contested, as after 10 of 18 holes, the match remained tied. Heading into the final hole of the round, Whateley earned a victory to tie the match once again and force a playoff. She then won the 19th hole to help the Bulldogs to victory.
The Bulldogs will conclude the Old Barnwell Derby Match Play on Tuesday, March 18 when they take on the No. 22 Duke Blue Devils. State will take the course beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT. Live scoring for the tournament is available at golfstat.com
