No. 14 Bulldogs Set To Compete At NCAA Indoors
March 13, 2025 | Track & Field
VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – Mississippi State men's track and field program punched six tickets to the NCAA Indoor Championships, set to begin on Friday, March 13.
"The guys are in a good spot to compete at a high level this weekend," said head coach Chris Woods. "The NCAA Indoor Championships are what these young men have been training for all year, and they are ready to turn some heads this weekend."
The first Bulldog to compete in the championship meet is combined events standout Peyton Bair. Bair punched his ticket to the championship at the Charlie Thomas Invitational earlier this season, earning a new personal best of 6,104 points. Bair is the favorite to win the events, with the national leading score in the NCAA this season. While this is Bair's first indoor national championship, the Idaho native is no stranger to elite NCAA competition, as he was the national runner-up in the decathlon at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Bair will kick off competition in the heptathlon Friday morning.
Nicholas Fakorede will be the next athlete to touch the track for the Bulldogs. This is Fakorede's NCAA debut, earning a spot in the 60m as the No. 13 seed in the event. He ran a personal best and extended his MSU No. 2 all-time mark in the 60m at the SEC Indoor Championships, where he finished fourth. Fakorede will compete Friday evening in the first section of the 60m.
While this may be Abdullahi Hassan's first NCAA Championship for State, this is his fifth consecutive appearance at the meet overall. Hassan enters at the No. 3 spot, after holding the collegiate lead for most of the season. As a now five-time All-American, Hassan enters the weekend ready to compete for the Bulldogs in the 800m prelims on Friday evening.
The final qualifiers for State were the 4x400m relay, consisting of Bair, Christion Barker, Cyrus Jacobs Jr., and Alfonso Hale Jr., with Sherman Hawkins traveling as an alternate. The squad will compete in the final event Saturday evening.
