Bair Voted SEC Indoor Track And Field Scholar-Athlete Of The Year
February 25, 2025 | Track & Field
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field combined events athlete Peyton Bair has been named the SEC Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year in a vote by the league's head coaches.
"Both the staff and I are incredibly proud of Peyton and the work he has put in both on the track and in the classroom," said head coach Chris Woods. "Peyton is the first athlete to win the award in MSU track and field history, which adds to his list of accolades as one of the best athletes in the conference and NCAA."
Bair is a three-time SEC Honor Roll awardee and Dean's List student and posted a 3.40 cumulative GPA while at Mississippi State. He is currently working towards a bachelor of biological sciences with concentrations in pre-medicine and physical therapy.
Bair is a two-time All-SEC, and All-American athlete, most recently taking home second in the decathlon at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. Bair currently has the conference and collegiate lead in the heptathlon, and the fifth-highest point total in the world so far this season.
A native of Kimberly, Idaho, Bair has quickly made his mark as the most decorated decathlete in program history. Holding the program record in both the men's heptathlon and decathlon, Bair has solidified himself in MSU history in his first two years in Starkville.
Bair is set to be recognized at the SEC Indoor Championships, taking place later this week. He is the first Mississippi State athlete to win the award since football player Austin Williams in 2022, who was the first to win the award in MSU history.
