Mississippi State Adds Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Ty Warren To Staff

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State head football coach Jeff Lebby announced the addition of Ty Warren as defensive line coach Sunday, bringing to Starkville a rising coaching talent with a championship pedigree, elite-level playing experience and a well-regarded reputation for developing players.
Warren joins the Mississippi State staff after spending the 2025 season at Rice as defensive run game coordinator and defensive line coach. He brings nearly two decades of experience across college football, the NFL and other professional leagues, pairing proven player development with one of the most accomplished playing résumés of any young defensive coach in the country.
Prior to Rice, Warren spent two seasons at Stephen F. Austin, where he served as assistant head coach, defensive run game coordinator and defensive line assistant. Joining the Lumberjacks staff in April 2023, Warren helped recruit back-to-back top-10 FCS recruiting classes and played a key role in one of the most dramatic defensive turnarounds in the subdivision.
In 2024, SFA vaulted from 98th to sixth nationally in scoring defense, 110th to 20th in rushing defense (118 yards per game), 40th to tied for third in tackles for loss (92), 64th to fifth in third-down conversion defense (29.2 percent) and 37th to fourth in red zone defense (.676). The Lumberjacks improved from 3–8 to 7–5 overall, with five losses decided by a combined 32 points, and closed the season with a 32–19 win over No. 11 Abilene Christian.
A native of Bryan, Texas, Warren was a four-year letterman at Texas A&M from 1999-2002, starring on the Aggies' famed "Wrecking Crew" defense under head coach R.C. Slocum and defensive coordinator Mike Hankwitz. He earned All-Big 12 honors twice at both nose tackle and defensive end and was later inducted into the Texas A&M Sports Hall of Fame.
Warren was selected 13th overall in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots and went on to play in three Super Bowls, winning two championships. He was named first-team All-Pro by the Pro Football Writers in 2007, served as a team captain, earned the Ron Burton Community Service Award and Boston Humanitarian Award, and was named to the Patriots' All-Decade and All-Dynasty teams. He concluded his NFL career with the Denver Broncos following the 2012 season.
After retiring from the NFL, Warren began his coaching career in 2019 as head coach and campus director at Somerville High School before advancing to the professional ranks through the Detroit Lions' William Clay Ford Minority Coaching Assistantship. He later worked as a defensive assistant under Matt Patricia, alongside defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni and defensive line coach Bo Davis.
Warren continued his development through the Texas A&M University Coaching Academy and R.O.C.K. Program in 2021 and has gained extensive experience through the NFL's Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, including stops with the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants. He has also coached in professional spring leagues, serving as defensive run/pass rush game coordinator for the USFL's Houston Gamblers in 2022 and as co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the XFL's Orlando Guardians in 2023.
Warren and his wife, Kesha, are the parents of six daughters: Brionna, Brielle, Bailey, Brooklyn, Braylee and Brilee.
