Bulldogs Bring Veteran Coach Desmond Lindsey Back To His Home State

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State head football coach Jeff Lebby announced Sunday the addition of veteran assistant Desmond Lindsey to the Bulldogs' coaching staff as assistant wide receivers coach.
Lindsey, a Taylorsville, Mississippi native, arrives in Starkville with nearly two decades of collegiate coaching experience and a track record of player development, offensive production and elite recruiting. He most recently spent the 2025 season at UTEP, where he led the Miners' outside receivers, and previously served as associate head coach, offensive recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach at Southern Miss from 2021-24.
Lindsey was named the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Recruiter of the Year during his most recent stint at Southern Miss. He played a key role in the Golden Eagles' 2022 LendingTree Bowl championship and a 7–6 winning season. That year, West Point, Mississippi, native Jason Brownlee led Southern Miss receivers with 55 catches for 891 yards and eight touchdowns, earning All-Sun Belt honors before signing with the New York Jets and later joining the Kansas City Chiefs. Brownlee was also a two-time All-Sun Belt selection under Lindsey's guidance.
Prior to returning to Southern Miss, Lindsey spent two seasons at Arkansas State (2019-20), where he coached the running backs. In 2020, the Red Wolves finished No. 14 nationally in total offense, while two running backs eclipsed 500 rushing yards. Arkansas State also posted an 8-5 record in 2019 and capped the season with a Camellia Bowl victory.
Lindsey's background also includes a season at Memphis in 2018, where the Tigers ranked fourth nationally in total offense and seventh in scoring offense. He coached All-AAC wide receiver Damonte Coxie, who finished among the national leaders in receiving yards that season.
Earlier in his career, Lindsey built a strong résumé at multiple levels of college football, including stops at Southern Miss, West Alabama, West Georgia, Arkansas-Monticello and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He served as an assistant head coach at both West Alabama and West Georgia, helping guide teams to conference championships and deep NCAA Division II playoff runs.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Lindsey has twice been selected for the Bill Walsh NFL Coaches Fellowship Program, working with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans, and participated in the NFL/NCAA Football Academy in Dallas. He is also the author of Defeating Press Coverage for Your Wide Receivers, published by Gridiron Strategies.
A native of Mississippi, Lindsey earned both his bachelor's degree (2004) and master's degree (2009) from West Alabama. He and his wife, Sherita, have two children, Deja Moffett and Khloe Lindsey.
