Mississippi State Adds Veteran Offensive Coach Bush Hamdan To Staff
December 10, 2025 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State head football coach Jeff Lebby announced Wednesday the addition of Bush Hamdan as associate head coach for offense. A veteran offensive coach with 17 years of experience in college football and the NFL, Hamdan brings a reputation for innovation, development and high-level production.
Hamdan has built a national reputation as a teacher and developer of quarterbacks and wide receivers, coaching those positions across five different stops at the SEC, Power Four and NFL levels. His experience includes recent roles at Kentucky, Boise State and Missouri, key coordinator positions at Washington, and a season in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons.
Hamdan spent the 2024 season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kentucky after leading one of the most successful Boise State offenses in recent years in 2023. The Broncos scored 30 or more points in nine straight games under his direction, matching national semifinalists Michigan and Texas for the second-longest streak in the country and marking their longest such run since 2011.
Boise State finished No. 26 nationally in total offense (436.1 yards per game) while ranking seventh in rushing offense (214.8 yards per game). The Broncos also ranked 17th nationally in sacks allowed (1.08 per game), converted third downs at a 45.95 percent clip, the 16th-best rate in the FBS, and converted fourth downs at an 81.82 percent clip, the second-best rate in the FBS. Running back Ashton Jeanty, whom Hamdan helped coach to All-America and Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year honors, led the nation in yards from scrimmage (159.7 yards per game).
Jeanty also led the nation in yards after contact (4.7 per rush) and yards after catch per reception (14.4). He finished fifth nationally in touchdowns from scrimmage (19) and seventh in rushing (112.25 yards per game). The Broncos were second in the MWC in scoring offense and third in total offense.
Before returning to his alma mater at Boise State, Hamdan spent three seasons at Missouri from 2020-22, coaching wide receivers and quarterbacks. The Tigers earned a bowl berth in two of his three seasons on staff and ranked 32nd nationally in passing offense in 2020.
Hamdan previously served in multiple roles at Washington under his college coach Chris Petersen, including passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach during the Huskies' 2016 College Football Playoff season. That year, John Ross III and Dante Pettis combined for a Pac-12 record 32 receiving touchdowns. Ross earned All-America honors and was selected No. 9 overall in the 2017 NFL Draft, while Pettis was picked in the second round.
Hamdan spent 2017 as the quarterbacks coach for the Atlanta Falcons, and under his guidance, Matt Ryan became one of the NFL's top passers. Ryan was sixth in the league in passing yards (4,095), and the Falcons advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs after winning a wild-card game on the road over the Los Angeles Rams.
Hamdan returned to Washington as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2018-19. In 2018, Washington won the Pac-12 championship, advanced to the Rose Bowl and passed for 3,337 yards – the fourth-highest total in school history. Quarterback Jacob Eason went on to become a fourth-round NFL Draft pick.
Hamdan's earlier coaching career included stops at Davidson in 2014 (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Arkansas State in 2013 (co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Florida in 2012 (wide receivers), Sacramento State in 2011 (tight ends), Maryland in 2010 (offensive quality control) and Colorado in 2009 (student coach).
At Arkansas State in 2013, he helped lead the Red Wolves to the Sun Belt championship and a GoDaddy Bowl victory with a top-25 rushing offense and one of the nation's best ball security marks.
At Florida in 2012, he coached a wide receiver group that included four future NFL players (Andre Debose, Quinton Dunbar, Frankie Hammond and Solomon Patton) during an 11-2 season that culminated in a Sugar Bowl appearance.
Hamdan was selected in 2021 to the prestigious AFCA 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute, recognizing rising leaders in the profession.
A former quarterback at Boise State from 2004-08, Hamdan was a three-year letterwinner and two-time team captain. The Broncos went 35-4 over his final three seasons, including a 13-0 season and Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma in 2006. He earned the Bronco Excellence Award for integrity and leadership as a senior.
Hamdan earned his bachelor's degree in communication from Boise State and his master's degree in athletic administration from Idaho State. A native of Gaithersburg, Maryland, he and his wife, Brita, have three children: Sedona, Archer and Sahar.
