STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's football season came to an end as the Bulldogs dropped a 38-19 decision to No. 7 Ole Miss in the annual Battle for the Golden Egg Friday afternoon at Davis Wade Stadium.

Ole Miss got off to a fast start in the game, taking its opening drive 75 yards down the field for a touchdown for an early 7-0 lead. On State's first possession, quarterback Kamario Taylor led a 97-yard drive and cashed in with a 22-yard touchdown rush to respond and tie the game at 7-7 with 8:50 left in the first.

On the next possession, Ole Miss again drove 75 yards to retake a 14-7 advantage. Later, after multiple punts from both teams and a takeaway for the Rebels, State kicker Kyle Ferrie drilled a 40-yard field goal with 1:45 left in the half to cut the MSU deficit to 14-10. The Rebels answered right back though as they found the endzone just before the break to take a 21-10 lead into halftime.

State began the third quarter with the football and moved the ball down field. Ferrie pulled MSU within a score when he split the uprights with a 32-yard field goal to make it a 21-13 game at the 10:01 mark, but the Rebels soon responded with a field goal of their own to push their lead back to 24-13 with 6:43 remaining in the quarter.

In the fourth, the Rebels added on and grew their lead to 31-13 before State responded at the 10:40 mark with a 35-yard scramble to the endzone by Taylor to make it 31-19. That's as close as MSU got the rest of the way as the Rebels found paydirt one more time to put the game away.

Making his first career start, Taylor turned in 178 passing yards along with 173 on the ground and two touchdowns. Defensively for State, safety Isaac Smith led the unit with 13 tackles.
