2025-26 Mississippi State Men's Basketball Postgame Quotes
Mississippi State vs. Southeastern Louisiana – November 15, 2025
MIssissippi State Guard Shawn Jones Jr. and Forward Achor Achor
Q: What are you seeing from your point of view when the offensive is in a good rhythm, but turnovers are still a problem?
SJJ: "It's something we've got to work on. Basketball, turnovers are a part of basketball. We've got to get back in the gym on Monday, all weekend and work on it even harder. We push each other defensively so we can get a look at what other teams are going to try and do to us, if they see we're struggling with that."
Q: Do you see taking more of a scoring role on this team, or is it just getting into the flow of the game?
SJJ: "It just came to me. Everybody knows I'm not too much of an offensive player. I just don't value that as much, but if it comes when I'm feeling good, then, it's there."
Q: When did you start feeling good on your shot today?
SJJ: "When I got two steals and started playing defense. That's where it started at."
Q: You hit a three pointer as well, was that part of the game plan or just what they were giving once the team broke the press?
AA: "I've worked a lot on my three-point shots over the last couple of seasons. I think I shot the ball at a high clip. Coming here, [Coach] Jans wants me playing defense, and stretch the floor out make up shots when they're open."
Q: You didn't play as much in the second half, was that based on matchups?
AA: "I feel like some of the guys probably had it going a little better. Coach [Jans] was saying that he liked the flow of the game, let them rock out."
Q: How did your team get a handle on the press especially in the second half?
SJJ: "We worked on it in practice. We know what teams are going to do to us. In the game of basketball, you have to pick out weaknesses. Teams are going to pick out our weaknesses.
Right now, we're getting trapped. We prepare for it. It hasn't gone as we planned, but we're going to keep building on it."
Q: Coming in as a senior, how has Shawn Jones Jr. helped you adjust to the team?
AA: "Not just me, but everybody that has come in. He's helped us tremendously. He's been here since [Coach] Jans' first year. He's been a good leader for us throughout the tough times, the downs and the lows. Even with Iowa State, he helped us rally into this game. Good thing we got the win today."
Q: How much has it helped this offense to get a healthy Jayden Epps back?
SJJ: "He's very hard to guard, and he's very smart player. It's good to have him back with the team, back in the right mindset and back flowing. That's our brother. If he's with us, we love it."
