State Falls In Hard-Fought Battle At Florida
October 10, 2025 | Soccer
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – No. 12 Mississippi State scored first, but the game changed with a pair of red cards in the 57th minute. The Bulldogs ultimately would drop a physical battle at Florida, 2-1, on Friday night.
Â
Zoe Main opened the scoring in the 18th minute after Tatum Borman beat her defender down the left side. Borman drew the final two defenders and the goalkeeper's attention before laying the ball off to her right for a wide-open Main who shot back against the run of play.
Â
Florida (6-5-3, 2-2-3 SEC) tied the match in the 40th minute in the aftermath of a set piece. Kat Tsakiris dribbled down the end line and played a cross to the front post where Skye Barnes cut it back to the middle of the six-yard box for Sophie Sindelar who tied the game.
Â
Things took a turn in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Florida's Addy Hess scored the game-winner in the 50th minute, putting her own rebound back in past the Bulldog keeper.
Â
Just seven minutes later, a video review was initiated after Ally Perry went down just outside the box. The yellow card to Florida's Charlotte McClure was upgraded to red, but simultaneously, Perry was also set off. Playing with 10 players a side the rest of the way, State fought to even the match and had multiple chances to do so.
Â
MSU's best chances to tie came in the 78th minute when Adia Symmonds' shot was stopped with a leaping save and in the 83rd minute when Kennedy Husband's effort was just wide of the post. Main nearly got a foot on Husbands' shot to redirect it with a sliding effort but came up just short. The Bulldogs (9-3-1, 4-2-1 SEC) forced three saves in the final five minutes of play and a fourth attempt from Rebeka Vega-Peleka was blocked.
Â
"It's a tough result," head coach Nick Zimmerman said. "This group showed resilience in a lot of adversity tonight. This is part of our journey, and we are excited to go again and get back to work."
Â
The Bulldogs will play two matches next week, beginning with No. 21 Vanderbilt at home on Thursday. Kickoff in Starkville is set for 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network+.
