Men's Golf Adds Individual Tournament To Open February
January 26, 2025 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE – No. 20 Mississippi State has added the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate to its men's golf schedule and will now open the 2025 spring schedule on Feb. 1. The tournament's first two rounds are both played on that Saturday with the final round on Sunday.
Georgia Southern will host the event at the 6,900-yard, par-72 Georgia Southern University Golf Course in Statesboro, Georgia. Players from 18 schools, including five other teams ranked in the SCOREBOARD Top 25—No. 1 Ole Miss, No. 3 Auburn, No. 14 Florida, No. 18 South Carolina and No. 23 South Florida – will compete.
Drew Wilson led the Maroon and White in last year's edition of the Thomas Sharkey, tying for third at 7-under. Alejandro Fierro followed in a tie for 22nd.
Originally known as the GS Individual Collegiate, Georgia Southern renamed the event the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in 2021 to honor the memory of Sharkey, who played for the Eagles from 2009-11. He was tragically killed in a house fire in his native Scotland in the summer of 2011. The Georgia Southern golf program placed a memorial stone in his honor at its practice facility, and his name remains in his locker to continue his legacy.
