STARKVILLE – Mississippi State defender Rylie Combs has been named to the TopDrawerSoccer Women's Team of the Week following her stellar performances in the Bulldogs' back-to-back shutout victories over Oklahoma and No. 11 Texas.
Combs played a key role in Mississippi State's defensive dominance, leading the backline to consecutive shutouts against two of the nation's most high-powered offenses. Her leadership and defensive consistency were crucial in stifling both Oklahoma and the nationally ranked Longhorns.
These clean sheets are part of a record-breaking season for Mississippi State on the defensive, which has secured eight shutouts in nine matches for the first time in program history. The Bulldogs rank second in the NCAA and SEC in goals-against average (0.22), fourth nationally in save percentage (.917), and second in the NCAA in shutout percentage (.889).
In her time in the Maroon and White, Combs has been a vital part of the program's success, appearing in 61 matches and starting 54 of them. Combs has logged an impressive 4,606 minutes on the pitch, showcasing her durability and reliability as a key defensive figure for the Bulldogs.
This recognition further solidifies Combs' status as one of the top defenders in the SEC, as she continues to anchor a Bulldog defense that has been a driving force in the team's historic start to the 2024 season.
