State Secures Five Wins On Saturday

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Mississippi State women's tennis team picked up five total victories during the second day of the Debbie Southern Furman Fall Classic on Saturday.
Three of those wins came courtesy of Chris Hooshyar's freshman class. Carolina Troiano claimed her first career singles victory by taking down Furman's Jess Dawson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Fellow freshmen Emma Cohen and Gianna Oboniye had a hand in a pair of doubles victories. Cohen teamed with Jayna Clemens to beat Clemson's Sophie Clayton and Kinsey Crawford 6-1. Oboniye and partner Athina Pitta also won by that same score over the Tiger tandem of Artemis Aslanisvili and Sophia Hatton 6-1.
But it wasn't just the newcomers that saw success on Saturday. Pitta, a sophomore, dominated Lauren Friedman of South Carolina 6-0, 6-1 and senior Alessia Tagliente tallied her second win of the weekend by topping Clayton 7-5, 7-5.
The Bulldogs wrap up the tournament hosted by Furman on Sunday.
