August 20, 2024 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State alumnus Pedro Cruz Silva will return to Starkville as a graduate assistant on the Bulldogs' men's golf staff.
The Portuguese native twice won his country's National Amateur Championship while he was competing with the Bulldogs. He also played in the European Amateur Championship twice and won Portugal's 2023 Kendall Cup, one of the country's oldest national competitions for male amateurs.
"I am so excited to have Pedro back in our program," head coach Dusty Smith said. "He is bringing in four years of playing experience at Mississippi State, and I know he will be able to use those experiences to help our coaching staff and our team in his new role as a graduate assistant. Pedro has always been a team-first, selfless leader. I can't wait to see the value he will add to our program as he transitions into this new position."
In his junior season, Cruz Silva posted a 72.73 stroke average with two top-five finishes. That year, he shot a career-low 67 twice and posted his best 54-hole total at 207 (9-under) at MSU's Mossy Oak Collegiate.
Last year, he recorded a career-high 11 par or better rounds and a career-low 72.26 stroke average. His best finish came at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational where he tied for sixth.
Cruz Silva played in the NCAA Regionals three times in his career, including finishing 11th individually as part of the Bulldogs' 2023 Morgan Hill Regional Championship squad. He competed in 26 career tournaments and recorded three top 10 finishes while at State. Academically, he was a member of the SEC Honor Roll three times and a two-time GCAA All-American Scholar.
