#StateToTheShow: St. Clair, Wesley Close Regular Season
August 12, 2024 | Softball
STARKVILLE – The Texas Monarchs closed the Women's Pro Fastpitch regular season with a series sweep on the road against the Hub City Adelitas.
Brylie St. Clair and Aspen Wesley's team won every game in a pair of doubleheaders late last week in Lubbock, Texas. The games were high-scoring affairs, and the Monarchs outscored the Adelitas by a combined, 32-14, on the final day.
Individual game stats were not always available, but St. Clair went 2-for-4 in the Monarchs' 19-11 win on Friday. She totaled two RBIs and drew a pair of walks in the series. Wesley started in Game 1 on Thursday, picking up her third win of the year while striking out five in 5.0 innings.
The Monarchs will begin postseason play at home against the Coastal Bend Tidal Wave on Monday night at 7 p.m. CT. They finished the season with a 12-14 record and passed the Tidal Wave with last week's sweep for the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. The winner of tonight's single-elimination game will face the No. 1-seed Texas Smoke in a best of three series beginning on Wednesday with all games starting at 7 p.m.
Â
Professional softball in the United States consists of three different leagues. Two play with traditional, location-based teams, the Association of Fastpitch Professionals (AFP), which concluded last week with its Champion Cup, and Women's Pro Fastpitch (WPF). Two Bulldogs are currently members in each of these leagues. The third organization is Athletes Unlimited (AU), which does not have traditional teams. Instead, athletes compete as individuals earning fantasy sports style points. Teams are re-drafted by the leading players each week in Athletes Unlimited, where one Bulldog is active.Â
