August 01, 2024 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State football's Nick Barr-Mira has been named to the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy watchlist. This is Barr-Mira's second watchlist nomination of the 2024 season after also being named as a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
On Thursday, the Wuerffel Foundation announced its Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watchlist for the 2024 season, consisting of a record 111 nominees representing players from college football's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).
College football's premier award for community service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports, The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy embodies Wuerffel's commitment to being a humanitarian while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and positively impact society. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy's founding, and the Foundation will recognize the first nineteen recipients throughout the fall season.
Barr-Mira, a native of Palos Verdes, Calif., has been one of the leaders in the MSU locker room when it comes to giving back to the community. Since coming to Starkville before the start of last season, Barr-Mira has participated in numerous community service events. The newly created D.A.W.G. program has allowed Barr-Mira to participate in community service events such as Read Across America, Ryan's Giving Tree, the Emily Chancellor Polar Bear Plunge, a school service trip to Miami, Habitat for Humanity and multiple trips to Overstreet Elementary School District just to name a few.
Barr-Mira was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll after his first season at State. While at UCLA, he was a member of the Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll and a five-time member of the UCLA Athletic Directors Honor Roll.
In his career, Barr-Mira has made 40 appearances, 32 of which came at UCLA. He has made 36 career field goals, including a career-long of 49 yards. Barr-Mira has been nearly automatic on point after attempts, making 143 of the 146 he has attempted. Barr-Mira enters the 2024 season with a streak of 81 consecutive PATs.
The 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by an illustrious national voting committee, including a fan vote component, and announced on ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 12th. The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will take place February 1, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
