#StateToTheShow: Athletes Unlimited Week 1
July 29, 2024 | Softball
ROSEMONT, Ill. – After one week of Athletes Unlimited play, Mia Davidson-Smith is tied for fifth in the league with a .500 on-base percentage. The former Mississippi State catcher added to her career record with her 15th and 16th hit-by-pitches in the first two games of the season.
Â
It was a rough week for her team, however, as Team Alexander (Gold) lost all three games. That seriously hampered her point-earning potential as she and her teammates collected just 70 of a possible 360 win points for the week. She added 46 stat points, which ranked among the top 20 in the league.
Â
Davidson-Smith had just seven official at-bats despite starting every game. She was walked once in addition to her hit-by-pitches. She collected two singles and reached base in every game. Her three combined walks and hit-by-pitches were second only to former Kentucky shortstop Erin Coffel's four (2 BB, 2 HBP) in the opening week of play.
Â
Though she was the starting DP in two of the three games in Week 1, she played catcher for at least three innings in each contest. She spent the whole game behind the plate on Saturday and picked up an assist when she helped catch a runner in a rundown between third and home.
Â
Davidson-Smith will now play as a member of Team Wallace (Purple), captained by former Florida shortstop Skylar Wallace. They will begin Week 2 on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. CT against Team Kilfoyl (Gold) on ESPNU. On Saturday, Team Wallace faces Team McQuillin (Orange) at 4 p.m., and on Sunday they wrap up their week against Team Lorenz (Blue) at 2 p.m., both on ESPN2.
