Sells, Edwards Excel In Collegiate Summer Leagues

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Kiarra Sells and Kylee Edwards have concluded successful seasons with their respective summer collegiate league teams. Both were instrumental in deep playoff runs for their teams.

Sells played for the Texas Ninebands in the Lonestar State Collegiate League where she was named an all-star. The Ninebands reached the league championship, but they needed to defeat the Texas 512's twice to claim the title. After a 6-0 victory to force the if-necessary game, Sells' squad lost the final game of the season.

Meanwhile in the Florida Gulf Coast League, Edwards' Bradenton Slice reached the semifinals, but lost to the eventual champion Manatee Impact.

Sells was a force at the plate all summer long. She crushed a LSCL-leading 15 homers and drove in 42 runs, which was second in her league. In fact, Sells' home runs paced all four of the American Collegiate Summer Leagues, including the FGCL, the Scenic City Collegiate League and the Golden Bay Collegiate League. Her RBIs were second nationally.

The Ninebands finished the summer with a 22-6 overall record. Sells had multiple RBIs in 11 games, including four or more three times. She drove in a season-high seven runs in one game on June 25 against the 512's, going 4-for-4 with two homers. In addition to the long ball, she finished the year with eight doubles and a triple. Twenty-four of her 37 hits were extra-base knocks, and she closed the campaign with a 1.461 OPS.

Edwards also saw a power surge over the summer. She was third on the team in both home runs (4) and doubles (5), and 50 percent of her hits went for extra bases. She collected six multi-RBI games and five multi-hit games. Edwards drew a dozen walks and finished the summer with a .943 OPS. She scored 21 times, which was second on the Slice.

Defensively, State's starting shortstop in 2024 recorded just four errors and a .940 fielding percentage. The Slice finished the summer with a 12-11 record.
