June 24, 2024 | Men's Golf
STARKVILLE – Three Mississippi State men's golfers picked up top-20 finishes over the weekend. Garrett Endicott tied for 12th at the prestigious 62nd Northeast Amateur. Meanwhile, at the Mississippi State Amateur Championship, Drew Wilson tied for fifth, and David Beard placed 17th.
Â
Endicott was boosted by a career-low 63 in the second round that lifted him 40 spots on the leaderboard on Thursday afternoon. After a slight setback in the third round that saw him shoot 1-over, he carded a 3-under 66 on Saturday to climb back inside the top 15. He shot four birdies on the front nine and added one more for good measure on No. 13.
Â
Wilson battled through an up-and-down weekend to fight his way to a top-five finish. The rising sophomore started the tournament with a 5-over 77 but shot below par in each of the final three rounds. He birdied his first hole of the second round, setting the pace for going 10-under across the final three days to finish at 5-under. Wilson carded a 66 in the second round, and he climbed 12 placed on the leaderboard with a 5-under 67 on Sunday with four birdies on the back nine.
Â
Beard, a rising senior, shot 2-under in Thursday's opening round but fell back to even with a 74 in the second. He shot 1-under in the third round but again carded a 74 in the final round. He finished at 1-over for the tournament. In a field of 115, only 60 players made the cut and only 16 finished the four-round event below par.
