RUMFORD, Rhode Island – A career-low day for Garrett Endicott lifted the rising junior at Mississippi State 40 spots on the leaderboard and into the top five midway through the prestigious Northeast Amateur.
Endicott shot a 6-under 63, which would better the lowest round of his collegiate career. The San Antonio, Texas, native shot a 64 in his second career event at the 2022 SEC Fall Preview. The 63 would be tied for the second-lowest round in program history had it come in collegiate competition.
On Wednesday, Endicott finished 1-over and sat in 44th place. He came out of the clubhouse on a mission on Thursday. From the first tee, which he birdied, Endicott began a steady climb up the leaderboard. He made the turn at 3-under 31 after carding birdies on Holes 3 and 6.
He went to 4-under with a birdie on the par-3 No. 12 tee before birdieing two of the final three holes to finish at 6-under. He has twice shot 6-under par in his college career, at the aforementioned SEC Fall Preview (64) and at the 2024 Schenkel Invitational (66). Endicott is now tied for fourth entering the third of four rounds.
The Northeast Amateur began in 1962 and was originally a 54-hole event. It is now an invitational tournament that consists of 72 holes of stroke play over four days. Following the third round, the field of 96 is cut to the low 60 and ties before the final round. The winner is awarded a crystal trophy and the Northeast Amateur blazer. His name is also added to the permanent Northeast Amateur trophy displayed in the clubhouse at Wannamoisett Country Club.
