Edwards To Spend Summer Competing In Florida Gulf Coast League
June 13, 2024 | Softball
BRADENTON, Fla. – After an impressive freshman season, Mississippi State's Kylee Edwards will spend the next month playing for the Bradenton Slice in the Florida Gulf Coast League (FGCL).
Â
The FGCL features a 25-game schedule and concludes with an all-start game and playoff. There are 10 teams in the league representing the colorful history of Sarasota and Manatee counties. Rosters include players from all divisions and conferences across NCAA softball. This year's Women's College World Series included 19 players who spent their 2023 summer in the FGCL.
"I'm super excited to get back to work, improve my game and play with some of the best collegiate girls," Edwards said.Â
Â
The Waldron, Indiana, native and the Slice open their season on Friday, June 14 at 4:30 p.m. CT. The final regular-season game is set for July 8 with the teams playing nearly every day. The league's all-star game, home run derby and Coasty Awards banquet is set for July 9, and the double-elimination playoffs begin the following day.
Â
All games will stream exclusively on AthletesGoLive.com.
Â
Edwards was one of three Bulldogs to play every game this season, and the rising sophomore started all but one game at shortstop. She gained national attention for her athletic defensive plays up the middle and ranked third on the team in slugging percentage, home runs and runs scored. More impressively, Edwards struck out in just 7.1 percent of her plate appearances, which ranked 11th in the SEC.
