STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Chris Hooshyar continues to bolster his roster for his second season as women's tennis coach with the signing of Carolina Troiano.
Troiano comes to the Bulldogs as one of Italy's top tennis prospects and is expected to arrive in Starkville in August. The Rome native won the ITF J60 in Pescara, Italy in 2023 and currently holds an ITF singles ranking of 217.
"We are so excited that Carolina has trusted us to help her take the next step towards becoming a professional tennis player," said assistant coach Noah Tippen. "She was someone we had our eyes on for a long time during the recruiting process because of the improvements she has been able to make in the last year. Once we began speaking to Carolina, she immediately saw the vision that Chris has implemented here to develop players at the highest level to help them become professionals. Carolina is hungry to keep getting better and I know that she will fit in with and help grow our culture as a teammate."
Troiano competed in prequalifying in both singles and doubles at the Rome Masters 1000 Tournament and last week reached the third round of singles qualifying at the ITF W15 Madrid. She holds career-best UTR score of 10.21.
In addition to her prowess on the tennis court, the 19-year-old was also a force in soccer early on in her career. Troiano played on the U16 Italian National Soccer Team until she solely switched her focus to tennis at the age of 14.
Troiano is the second player Hooshyar has inked in his initial signing class joining Canadian Gianna Oboniye. She joins rising senior and follow Italian Alessia Tagliente on the Bulldogs' roster.
