STARKVILLE – Mississippi State men's golf has signed Ugo Malcor, the reigning A-10 Conference Champion, head coach Dusty Smith announced on Thursday.
Malcor, a rising junior, comes to Starkville from VCU where he led the Rams to the A-10 Championship while winning individual medalist honors by defeating his own teammate in a two-hole playoff. He also paced the Rams at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional where they shot their lowest team round in program history and recorded their highest regional finish in more than 20 years.
The La Baule, France, native posted a 71.83 stroke average this spring, which was second on VCU's roster and a top-10 mark in program history. He fired a team-leading and school-record-tying 22 rounds of par or better and claimed eight top-25 finishes on the year.
"We are very excited to be welcoming Ugo to our program," Smith said. "He will bring experience and a great competitive spirit to our team. He comes from a very competitive family and knows what it takes to play at the highest level. His results speak for themselves. I know Ugo is going to push those around him to be their absolute best."
In 2022-23, Malcor was named the A-10 Rookie of the Year after leading VCU with a 72.49 stroke average and 17 rounds of par or better.
Outside of the collegiate circuit, he is a two-time runner up at the French Championship. Most recently, his French club, Cannes-Mougins won the Gounouilhou Trophy at the French Men's Team Championship where he won both his individual and foursomes match in the final. Last year, he finished fifth at the Italian International Amateur Championship, and he has twice competed at The R&A Amateur Championship.
