Kennedy Earns Second All-America Honor From NFCA
May 29, 2024 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Madisyn Kennedy continues to add to her resume after being tabbed a Second Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association. She was an at-large selection on the second team, and her second All-America honor of the year marks the 28th honor in Mississippi State history.
Â
Of the 10 student-athletes who have been named All-Americans at State, Kennedy is the fifth to earn honors from multiple outlets in the same season. Most recently, Mia Davidson was a consensus First Team All-American in 2022. Her recognition is the 17th in program history from the NFCA.
Â
Since 2019, Mississippi State student-athletes have won nine All-America honors. Five of those honors have come under Samantha Ricketts as head coach.
Â
Kennedy was among the top 30 nationally in total home runs, home runs per game, total RBIs, RBIs per game and slugging percentage. Her 1.222 OPS ranked fourth in the SEC.
Â
The First Team All-SEC slugger posted top-10 single-season totals in school history in home runs (17), slugging percentage (.792) and RBIs (56). She also collected career highs in doubles (9), walks (26), total bases (99) and on-base percentage (.430) and her batting average (.312) was its highest since the shortened 2020 season (.333). Kennedy finished her career as the fourth member of the 40-homer club in program history, and 17 of those home runs came in SEC games, which trailed only Davidson who is the all-time SEC career-record-holder.
Â
The Montgomery, Alabama, native was even more impressive in conference play. She hit nine home runs in league games, which broke the school record, and drove in 27 runs, which was one shy of the school record. She also slugged a league-leading .762 in SEC games.
