Shapen Named Manning Passing Academy Counselor
May 24, 2024 | Football
STARKVILLE — Mississippi State's Blake Shapen will join some of the nation's top collegiate quarterbacks in Louisiana later this summer as a counselor for the Manning Passing Academy. The event will be held June 27-30 in Thibodaux, La.
Â
Shapen is one of several quarterbacks selected to serve as a counselor for this year's Manning Passing Academy. The four-day event is held at Nicholls State University and is regarded as one of the country's premier football camps.
Â
For 27 years, the Manning Passing Academy has been helping high school quarterbacks, running backs, receivers and tight ends realize their full potential on and off the football field. The camp helps athletes grasp the fundamentals of their position, along with basic offensive and defensive strategies.
Â
Shapen joins a growing list of State quarterbacks who have participated in the Manning Passing Academy in recent years. A few notable Bulldog counselors include Tyler Russell, Dak Prescott and Nick Fitzgerald, who all served as counselors at the event.
Â
Shapen will enter his first season at State in 2024 after transferring from Baylor. While in Waco, Texas, Shapen earned honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in 2022 and was the 2021 Big 12 Championship Game Most Outstanding Player.
Â
In his career, Shapen has played in 27 career games while throwing for 5,574 yards and 36 touchdowns. In 2023, Shapen completed 63.3 percent of his passes, the fifth-best single-season total in program Baylor history.
