
Throws Squad Punches Two More Tickets to Eugene On Day Two of NCAA East First Rounds

LEXINGTON, KY - The Mississippi State Track and Field women punched two tickets to Eugene and two trips to Friday's quarterfinals on the second day of the NCAA East First Rounds. Ella Knott (javelin) and Jhordyn Stallworth (shot put) will take their first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships while Rosealee Cooper and Jessicka Woods will have the opportunity to secure a ticket in the 100m hurdles on Saturday.
With Knott's and Stallworth's qualifying, under associate head coach and throws coach April Thomas, all five of State's throwers who qualified for East First Rounds punched a ticket to Eugene.
Knott, an Oregon native, placed seventh overall in the javelin with a personal record distance of 51.83m (170-0), improving her No. ranked all-time top -five performance at State. She is the third Bulldog punch their ticket in the javelin for the 2024 championships and will join men's javelin throwers Remi Rougetet and Franck Di Sanza in Eugene.
Stallworth earned 11th overall with a mark of 16.44m (53-11.75). The shot put school record holder improved her finish by 12 spots since the 2023 East First Round to earn her first trip the Championships. Stallworth has the opportunity to secure a second ticket in the discus on Saturday.
Cooper and Woods both earned an automatic qualification in the 100m hurdles after placing third in their heats. Jessicka Woods finished with a personal record time of 13.23 that now ranks fifth on State's all-time top-five list, while Cooper finished just a second behind her with a time of 13.24. The duo will run in the quarterfinals Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
Due to weather delays, tomorrow's events will be with the women's pole vault at 9 a.m. CT, followed by the men's event picking up at noon CT with the men's discus. Running events are expected to begin at 4 p.m. CT with 4x100. The schedule can be found here.
