State Completes Second Round of NCAA Championship
May 18, 2024 | Women's Golf
CARLSBAD, Calif. – Day two of the NCAA Championship is complete as Mississippi State now sits at 8-over par in the tournament. The Bulldogs sit in 12th place.
The Bulldogs shot over par in the second round, as did much of the field. Only seven of the 30 participating teams finished under-par on day two. State sits six strokes away from the match play cutline, as that spot is held by Arkansas and Northwestern, who are tied at 2-over. However, State currently sits three strokes above 15th, which marks the cutline after tomorrow's third round.
Â
Julia Lopez Ramirez shot her best round in her NCAA Championship career in the second round as she finished 3-under par. This is the 6th round in the 60s she has carded this postseason. The junior jumped up the leaderboard, climbing 14 spots into a tie for fourth. This was the fourth-largest position change for anyone inside the top 10. Lopez Ramirez has seen her best career start in the NCAA Championship, as she is currently 4-under par total. After two rounds at the NCAA Championship last season, Lopez Ramirez was even-par, her best start to the tournament in her career before this season.
Surapa Janthamunee continued her excellent play this postseason as she finished the second round even-par. The past two rounds are only her second and third round at par or better in her NCAA Championship career, as her best round last season was at 2-under. SJ carded four birdies throughout her first nine holes in round two, the most of any Bulldog on the day. She has finished par or better in four of five rounds in the NCAA Tournament, the second-most on the team.
Â
Entering Sunday's round, the Bulldogs will look to stay inside the top 15 and advance to the fourth and final round of stroke play on Monday. Following the fourth round of stroke play, the field will be cut to eight teams who will compete in match play to determine a national champion.
