WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – No. 38 Mississippi State ended its 2023-24 campaign at the NCAA Regionals at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Indiana finishing in seventh place.
"I am obviously gutted for the team right now," head Coach Dusty Smith said. "We put so much time, effort and preparation into this week and to come up short really stings. We put ourselves in a great position going into the final round and unfortunately did not get the job done. Sometimes the journey doesn't take you to the destination you want. I am so proud of the guys and how they kept battling after the start we got off to."
As a team, MSU shot a 7-over 295 on the regional's final day and collected 11 birdies as a unit. State's 7th place finish means MSU continued their season-long streak of top-10 tournament finishes.
The highest individual finisher for the Bulldogs was Garrett Endicott, who carded an even-par round to finish tied for 4th in the field with a 5-under 211 over three rounds. After 18 holes of action, Endicott entered a playoff for a chance to qualify as an individual for the NCAA tournament but fell after five holes. His 4th place finish marks the second time this season he has finished inside the top-10 and is good for the best postseason finish of his career.
"I can't thank Hunter [Logan] and Pedro [Cruz Silva] enough for what they have done for this program," Smith continued. "They showed so much grit this week and that makes me proud. Garrett played phenomenal golf all week and to come up short to going to the NCAA championship hurts a lot. I know he is going to carry the momentum he got from this week into his summer golf."
Elsewhere, MSU had two other Bulldogs inside the top-50. Hunter Logan placed 23rd and Pedro Cruz Silva placed 34th in their final tournaments as a Bulldog.
"This is a special team that I will cherish forever," Smith concluded. "We've grown so much as a team and for that I am very thankful. Now the torch gets passed to next year's team and it is our responsibility to get back in the arena, get better, keep learning and continue to build our program into what we know it can be."
