April 06, 2024 | Men's Golf
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 26 Mississippi State men's golf team completed the first two rounds of the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational on Saturday and sits in 12th place after the first 36 holes.
The Bulldogs' day was highlighted by a strong opening round from Josep Serra. The junior carded his team-leading 15th par or better round this season, shooting a 3-under 69. He fired five birdies in the opening round and held the lead on two separate occasions, before settling into sole possession of third place entering Round 2. Serra would go on to shoot 5-over in his second trip around the course and is tied for 25th ahead of tomorrow's final round.
Drew Wilson also contributed early in the first round, carding three straight birdies on holes Nos. 10-13. He would falter a bit to close the round, finishing 2-over, but remained solidly in the mix, placing 21st heading into the second round.
The Bulldogs carded 13 additional birdies in the opening round, including five from Harrison Davis. Davis, who is competing individually, shot 2-under on the back nine, and finished 1-over for the round. He and Wilson stand tied for 48th through two rounds.
As a team MSU sat in 10th place after one round, but the Bulldogs dropped two spots in the second round to sit in 12th place.
Hunter Logan carded MSU's best performance of the second round. Courtesy of a 3-under back nine, Logan shot a 1-under 71. He notched six birdies on the round and climbed into a tie for 32nd. Logan has now shot 14 rounds of par or better golf this year, good for second-most on the team.
Tomorrow's third and final round is set to tee off at 7:30 a.m. CT from the No. 1 and the No. 10 tees.
