
Hernandez Heralded As SEC Player Of The Week

STARKVILLE – For the second week in a row, a member of Mississippi State's men's tennis team has been selected as the SEC Player of the Week.
Last week it was Petar Jovanovic that received the honor and on Wednesday, it is Carles Hernandez that earned that distinction. Hernandez went 4-0 in singles and doubles and helped the Bulldogs win their third and fourth consecutive matches against ranked opponents.
In Sunday's 4-3 win against No. 21 Alabama, Hernandez along with partner Dusan Milanovic clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Matic Dimic and Roan Jones. With the match against the Crimson Tide tied 3-3, Hernandez then clinched the win in the third set on the final court by downing 84th-ranked Enzo Aguiard 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Hernandez's win over Aguiard was his 10th career ranked victory in singles and his match-clincher against Alabama was the 15th of his career.
The senior from Crevillent, Spain also earned two wins and helped the Bulldogs' beat No. 56 Ole Miss for the first time since 2019 in a 7-0 shutout on Friday. He and Milanovic topped Isac Stromberg and Noah Schlagenhauf 6-4 in doubles before he won 6-4, 7-5 against Stromberg in singles. The victory over Stromberg was also the 100th of his career.
Hernandez is now sports a 14-4 singles record during dual match play this spring.
Three Bulldogs have now been named SEC Player of the Week this season in Hernanez, Jovanovic and Nemanja Malesevic. Hernandez and Malesevic will be honored prior to Friday's 3 p.m. home match against No. 7 Tennessee for Senior Day.
