April 26, 2024 | Men's Golf
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – After shooting an under-par round for the third straight day, Hunter Logan recorded the best postseason finish of his career, tying for second at the SEC Championship. Logan shot 1-under on the day and jumped one spot on the leaderboard to finish six strokes shy of the individual winner. Â
Overall, the Bulldogs shot a combined 4-over 284 on the day to finish in 10th place in the field. This continues State's streak of finishing in the top-10 in each of their tournaments this season.Â
"I am really proud of this team this week," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I thought we played some really solid golf these last two rounds and got our identity back. We handled the tough conditions today very well especially after getting off to a bad start. The guys never quit and never gave in and battled to the end."Â
Logan continued his strong performance from yesterday, going bogey-free on the first six holes of the day bringing him to 20 straight par or better holes after going bogey free on the last 14 holes of Round two. Logan would break the streak, bogeying hole No. 17, before shooting 1-under on the back nine to give him his 1-under 69 final total. Â
"I can't say enough about Hunter Logan this week," Smith continued. "It was great to see him play so well after some struggles this semester. It's a testament to who he is as a person to have the ability to play elite golf in the biggest moments."Â
The Steens, Mississippi, native has carded 20 par or better rounds this season, with 14 of those rounds coming in the 60s. Both of those marks lead the team this season. He has shot under par in six different rounds in his SEC Championship career, including all three at this year's event.Â
Garrett Endicott joined Logan in shooting under par, courtesy of a 2-under back nine. He finished 1-under on the day to give him his 16th par or better round this year. Â
Elsewhere for the Bulldogs, Alejandro Fierro, Josep Serra and Pedro Cruz Silva combined for six birdies on the day. Â
"I'm also really proud of Pedro and his round today," Smith concluded. "He played a huge round for us and gave us a meaningful score. Garrett was back to his normal self the last two rounds which is a great thing for this team. Now we turn our focus to NCAA Regionals. I feel like this group has so much momentum heading into the NCAA tournament."Â
Mississippi State will now turn their attention to the NCAA Tournament with regionals set to begin on May 13. The Bulldogs will find out their destination during the 2024 NCAA DI Men's Golf Selection Show on GOLF Channel on Wednesday, May 1 at 1 p.m. Â
