
Malesevic, Stallworth Selected As McWhorter Nominees

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Nemanja Malesevic of men's tennis and Jhordyn Stallworth of women's track and field have each been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post Graduate Scholarship.
The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the SEC since 1986 to the league's top male and female student-athletes. The SEC's Male and Female Scholar Athlete of the Year winners will each be awarded $20,000 scholarships. The other 26 finalists receive a $10,000 scholarship.
MSU football's Austin Williams was the most recent Bulldog to win the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post Graduate Scholarship in 2022. Emmanouela Antonaki (women's tennis) and William Wann (men's golf) were State's nominees last year.
The conference will announce the 2024 winner later this month. Â
Both Malesevic and Stallworth have been exemplary representatives for Mississippi State on the field of play and in the classroom. Both Bulldogs have been three-time Academic All-SEC honorees and are set to graduate with their undergraduate degrees next month. They also serve as leaders for their respective sports and will leave with their names in the MSU record books.
Malesevic will graduate with a degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sport administration. In addition to his Academic All-SEC accolades, he has also been a two-time ITA Scholar Athlete and was also a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection in 2023.
On the court, Malesevic was a SEC All-Freshman Team member in 2021 and was picked second team All-SEC the past two seasons as well as being named the 2021 ITA Southern Region Rookie of the Year. The native of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina has racked up 134 wins during his career and been ranked as highly as No. 36 nationally in singles and No. 14 in doubles.
Malesevic has notched 31 career wins over ranked opponents, clinched 17 doubles points and 21 matches. He currently ranks ninth all-time at State with 59 career dual match singles wins and his 122 total dual match victories are tied for 10th in school history. He represented the Bulldogs in both singles and doubles at the 2022 ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, California.
Stallworth is set to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in business administration. She has been on the Bulldog Honor Roll with a grade point average of 3.0 or better every semester since arriving in Starkville in 2021 and was also tabbed as an All-Academic Athlete by the USTFCCCA in 2021.
The Tallahassee, Florida native holds the Mississippi State record in shotput (indoor, outdoor and freshman) and discus. Stallworth was on the SEC All-Freshman Team for shotput and discus in 2021 and was a SEC Championship Meet Finalist from 2021-23. She has also served as team captain for the past three seasons.
Stallworth placed in the top five in shotput in all four meets she competed in during the 2023 indoor season, including a first-place finish in the largest field she competed in against 47 other throwers. She has increased her shotput distance by more than four feet since the 2023 SEC Indoor Championships and over five feet since the 2022 SEC Championships.
