Bulldog Alumnus Rose Breaks Course Record in First Professional Win
April 01, 2024 | Men's Golf
KINDER, La. – Mississippi State men's golf alumnus Austin Rose earned his first career professional victory on Saturday, winning the Coushatta Open with a 21-under 267 over four rounds.
Rose, a four-year letterwinner for MSU from 2014-2018, handled the course in Kinder, Louisiana, with ease, finishing with a two-stroke lead. His third round was the difference maker. The former Bulldog carded nine birdies and eagled the par-5 18th hole to finish at 11-under. His 61 now stands as the course record at the Koasati Pines Golf Course and gave him a comfortable lead over the field heading into the final round.
Rose got his tournament off to a strong start, shooting six birdies and going 4-under in the opening round. Rose would then follow that with a 2-under 70 in Round 2, bringing him to 6-under to make the cut.
In the final round, Rose shot 4-under and with six birdies for the second round. That was good enough to protect his lead and fend off a strong challenge from the rest of the field for his first career victory.
While at State, Rose was a part of two NCAA tournament teams and participated in the 2019 Louisville regional. His first collegiate victory came at the 2018 Magnolia Amateur, where he shot 11-under.
The Bulldogs are currently ranked No. 26 by Clippd. They will head to golf's most-prestigious stage next week, traveling to Augusta, Georgia, ahead of The Master's. State is set to play at the Augusta/Haskins Award Invitational on April 6-7 just four miles from the fabled Augusta National. Following the event, student-athletes will have the opportunity to attend the first day of golf's most-prestigious major.
