Hawkins, Reid Earn All SEC Honors At Indoor Championships

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State track and field sophomore Sherman Hawkins and senior Tyrese Reid have been named to the All-SEC Second Team, announced by the league office Tuesday.
Hawkins claimed the first SEC honors of his career after he took home silver in the high jump at the SEC Indoor Championships, clearing 2.16m (7' 1"). The Jackson State transfer passed on the first height of 2.06m (6' 9") and successfully cleared the next two heights of 2.11m (6' 11") and 2.16m, each on his third attempt.
Hawkins was one of two high jumpers to complete the first three heights and attempt a fourth height of 2.21m (7' 3"), with the other being the 2024 SEC indoor champion, 2023 NCAA champion and current collegiate leader, Romaine Beckford of Arkansas.Â
Hawkins completed the indoor track and field season with a personal-best height of 2.18m (7' 1.75"), earned at the UAB Vulcan Invite Jan 13., which ranks 20th on the NCAA 2024 performance list.
Reid earned his first career SEC Honors after finishing second in the 800m at the league's indoor championships, with a personal best time of 1:47.55. The Montego Bay native earned the trip to the finals after placing first in his heat and third overall with a time of 1:50.95. Reid's time now ranks fourth overall in MSU history.
Reid completed the indoor season with five top-three finishes in four meets and a set a new personal record in all three 800m events he competed. Reid's silver medal is a career-best post-season finish and his first post-season medal.
