
Bulldogs Drop Late Contest With Fresno State

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – No. 25/20 Mississippi State saw its trip to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic end with a 3-1 loss to Fresno State on Saturday night. State put runners on second and third in the seventh, but never led in the contest.

Fresno State (9-4) opened the scoring with a solo homer in the first inning. They added a second run with the help of an MSU (11-3) error in the outfield.

Brylie St. Clair drove in Nadia Barbary in the fifth, but Fresno State answered back in the top of the seventh. Jessie Blaine walked, and Aquana Brownlee reached on an error as a pinch hitter in the seventh. The runners advanced to second and third on a ground out, but the ballgame ended on a called third strike.

Next Up
The Bulldogs return home to Starkville on Feb. 29 to open the Bulldog Invitational presented by C Spire at Nusz Park. MSU will welcome Southern Miss, Troy, Alcorn State and Samford for the four-day event. State is set to meet Southern Miss on Feb. 29 before playing Troy on March 1. MSU plays both Alcorn State and Troy on Saturday, March 2, before closing the tournament on Sunday against Alcorn State and Samford.Â
