CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – No. 25/20 Mississippi State saw its trip to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic end with a 3-1 loss to Fresno State on Saturday night. State put runners on second and third in the seventh, but never led in the contest.

Fresno State (9-4) opened the scoring with a solo homer in the first inning. They added a second run with the help of an MSU (11-3) error in the outfield.

Brylie St. Clair drove in Nadia Barbary in the fifth, but Fresno State answered back in the top of the seventh. Jessie Blaine walked, and Aquana Brownlee reached on an error as a pinch hitter in the seventh. The runners advanced to second and third on a ground out, but the ballgame ended on a called third strike.

Quick Hitters

Turnin' Two – The Bulldogs turned four of their seven double plays this season while competing at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic this week … MSU turned two against Notre Dame and one each against Cal State Fullerton and Fresno State.

Nadia Barbary – Singled, walked and scored.

Kylee Edwards – Matched her career high with four assists … recorded a career-high six total chances … started a double play.

Delainey Everett – Retired both batters she faced in relief … needed just seven pitches.

Madisyn Kennedy – Went 1-for-3.

Brylie St. Clair – Went 2-for-2 and drove in a run … marks her 25th career multi-hit game.

With one out, Lauren Almeida singled to left and advanced to second when the left fielder couldn't field the ball cleanly. Ava Tingey pinch ran at second, and Juliana Wilson singled her home.

Nadia Barbary led off with a single up the middle. She moved to second on Kylee Edwards' ground out to short and came home on Brylie St. Clair's single past the diving second baseman.

Kennedy Bunker singled through the left side to open the inning. She scored on Bella Rocco's one-out double down the left field line.

Next Up

The Bulldogs return home to Starkville on Feb. 29 to open the Bulldog Invitational presented by C Spire at Nusz Park. MSU will welcome Southern Miss, Troy, Alcorn State and Samford for the four-day event. State is set to meet Southern Miss on Feb. 29 before playing Troy on March 1. MSU plays both Alcorn State and Troy on Saturday, March 2, before closing the tournament on Sunday against Alcorn State and Samford.
