December 04, 2024 | Soccer
STARKVILLE – In a season defined by historic milestones and unprecedented achievements, Mississippi State's Macey Hodge has etched her name in program history once again. The standout midfielder has been named one of 19 semifinalists for the 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy, becoming the first Bulldog ever to earn the prestigious recognition.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) and United Soccer Coaches, is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer. Established in 1967, the award celebrates the best collegiate soccer players in the nation each year. The 2024 semifinalists were selected through voting conducted by NCAA Division I women's soccer coaches. The honor places Hodge among the elite of college soccer, a testament to her extraordinary impact during Mississippi State's record-breaking season.
Hodge's inclusion on the list of semifinalists underscores her role as a cornerstone of the Bulldogs' success in 2024. Starting all 21 matches, Hodge logged over 1,700 minutes in the midfield, serving as both the team's engine and heartbeat as captain. Hodge's tactical awareness, exceptional ball control and unmatched work rate made her indispensable on both sides of the ball. Defensively, Hodge anchored a unit that allowed just two goals in SEC play, while offensively, her playmaking ability orchestrated countless scoring opportunities.
The SEC Midfielder of the Year and First Team All-SEC honoree has played a pivotal role in State's ascension in the collegiate soccer landscape as State's 2024 campaign was a season for the ages. With Hodge at the forefront, the Bulldogs captured their first-ever SEC Regular Season Championship, finishing conference play with a perfect record – a feat achieved by only three other programs in SEC history. Hodge's contributions were instrumental in establishing the team as a defensive powerhouse, leading the nation in shutout percentage and goals-against average. Her consistency, composure, and leadership elevated the program to new heights, transforming Mississippi State into a formidable force on the national stage.
As a MAC Hermann semifinalist, Hodge joins an exclusive group of players vying for the title of college soccer's best. For Hodge, this recognition solidifies her place among the elite players in the country and marks a defining moment in Mississippi State soccer history.
The MAC Hermann Trophy journey will continue on Dec. 11, when three women's finalists are announced. The winner will be revealed at the 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet, hosted at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Jan. 3, 2025.
