December 18, 2024 | Soccer
STARKVILLE –  For the second year in a row, State's soccer staff has been recognized as the United Soccer Coaches Southeast Staff of the Year. Following a historic 2024 season, this award reinforces the Bulldogs' ascent as one of the nation's elite programs.
Mississippi State achieved unparalleled success in 2024, capturing their first-ever SEC Regular Season Championship with a flawless 10-0-0 record in conference play. This made Mississippi State just the fourth program in SEC history to finish conference play undefeated and untied. The Bulldogs also set a new program record for single-season wins and remained unbeaten at home, fueled by record-setting attendance figures at the MSU Soccer Field that showcased the program's growing fan support.
State's defense was among the most formidable in the country in 2024. The Bulldogs secured 16 shutouts, equating to a remarkable 75% shutout percentage. The Dawgs allowed just two goals throughout SEC play and finished the season with a .45 goals-against average, ranking among the best in the nation. The defensive unit's excellence was recognized with three players earning United Soccer Coaches All-America honors—a testament to the team's depth and discipline at the back. Additionally, the Bulldogs took home three of the SEC's positional awards, claiming the Goalkeeper, Defender and Midfielder of the Year titles.
While the defense set the tone, the offense was equally dynamic. State ranked among the top-five in the SEC in goals, assists, and points, showcasing a balanced and potent attacking approach. The Bulldogs' forwards and midfielders combined for clinical finishing, creative playmaking, and relentless pressure on opposing defenses. This dual-pronged dominance ensured State could win games through both offensive firepower and defensive resilience, cementing their status as a complete team.
Beyond their on-field achievements, the staff's influence extended into the classroom and the community. Multiple players earned CSC Academic All-District and All-America honors, highlighting the program's commitment to academic success. The staff's dedication to player development and fostering a winning culture has elevated Mississippi State to new heights.
The Southeast Staff of the Year award caps a season filled with accolades for Mississippi State. The Bulldogs also achieved their highest final rankings in program history, with TopDrawerSoccer placing them ninth and the United Soccer Coaches ranking them 10th in their respective polls. Additionally, the program celebrated its first-ever MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, further demonstrating the talent and dedication driving the team's success.
Mississippi State's meteoric rise in collegiate soccer continues to draw national attention, and the Bulldogs are well-positioned to build on this historic season as they set their sights on 2025.
