December 11, 2024 | Soccer
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State goalkeeper Maddy Anderson has been named the 2024 Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for Division I, as announced Wednesday by College Sports Communicators (CSC). Anderson's selection headlines the announcement of the Academic All-America women's soccer teams for NCAA Division I, II, and III.
This prestigious honor crowns an extraordinary career for Anderson, who has consistently demonstrated excellence both academically and athletically. A Seabrook, Texas, native, Anderson carries a perfect 4.0 GPA while pursuing a master's degree in Kinesiology, having previously earned her bachelor's degree in Psychology, also with a 4.0 GPA. This marks her third consecutive Academic All-America recognition, following her selections to the First Team in 2022 and the Second Team in 2023.
Anderson's recognition makes her the ninth Mississippi State student-athlete to be named Academic All-America Team Member of the Year, joining an elite group that includes Burke Masters (1989, Baseball), Joey Hamilton (1991, Baseball), Kate Jaspers (2004, Softball), Chelsea Bramlett (2010, Softball), and Ford Clegg (2023, Golf). Anderson is also only the fourth soccer player in SEC history to receive this prestigious honor, cementing her legacy as one of the conference's all-time greats.
On the pitch, Anderson played a pivotal role in Mississippi State's historic 2024 season. As the SEC Goalkeeper of the Year and a First Team All-SEC selection, Anderson anchored Mississippi State's defense during their first-ever SEC regular-season championship campaign. Anderson's 14 shutouts ranked second in the nation, while her 0.470 goals-against average, 84.6% save percentage, and 1,916 minutes played place her among the nation's elite. In addition to being named a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American and First Team All-Southeast Region honoree, Anderson also earned spots on the SEC All-Tournament Team and the SEC Community Service Team. Anderson was also recognized as the SEC Defensive Player of the Week three times during the 2024 season, further highlighting her dominant performance.
"I am super thankful and blessed to receive this prestigious honor," said Anderson. "This recognition means the world to me, and having your hard work pay off is amazing. I am thankful to everyone who has supported me throughout my five years at Mississippi State. The support has been amazing. Mississippi State laid the foundation for me to pursue my goals and allowed me to work incredibly hard to obtain them."
Anderson's recognition underscores the academic and athletic excellence prevalent among the 33 members of the 2024 Academic All-America® Division I women's soccer teams. Fourteen honorees boast perfect 4.0 GPAs in their undergraduate or graduate studies, with the 12 first-team members averaging a GPA of 3.93. The collective GPA for the Division I team is an impressive 3.92.
Beyond the numbers, Anderson's impact has been immeasurable. Her dedication to community service, leadership, and mentorship has left an indelible mark on Mississippi State soccer and the broader university community. Anderson's legacy is one of resilience, excellence, and inspiration, setting a standard that will guide Bulldogs for generations to come.
