State Stacks Six More Wins On Saturday

HOUSTON – Mississippi State women's tennis earned six victories for the second day in row during the Rice Fall Invitational on Saturday.
The Bulldogs go into the final day of the tournament with a stellar 12-2 record overall. Emma Cohen and Alessia Tagliente are undefeated in singles and doubles while Jayna Clemens remains perfect in singles play.
Cohen and Tagliente teamed up for a pair of doubles victories on Saturday. The MSU tandem topped Maria Araoz-Gosn and Valeriia Ivanovskaia of UT Arlington 6-3 before blanking UTRGV's Hitakamya Singh Narwal and Valentina Urraco 6-0 for their fourth consecutive win.
Clemens also paired with Gianna Oboniye to secure their third doubles victory of the weekend by downing Rice's Saara Orav and Nithesa Selveraj 7-6(6).
In Saturday's singles semifinals, Clemens took down Rice's Valentina Ponce Serrano in straight sets on her home court 7-5, 6-2. Cohen and Tagliente came from behind to secure their victories. Cohen dropped her first set to UTRGV's Rhea Makesar 5-7, but persevered by claiming the next two 6-4, 6-1. Tagliente fell 3-6 in the first set to UTRGV's Yaiza Vazquez but rallied to win 6-4, 6-2 in the proceeding two sets.
Clemens, Cohen and Tagliente will represent the Bulldogs in the singles finals of their respective flights on Sunday starting at 9 a.m. Clemens squares off against Houston's Heta Nuutinen, Cohen battles Gabriela Felix da Silva of Iowa State and Tagliente faces UTSA's Valeria Sanchez.
